Ride Profile
OK so it’s not totally flat with about 250m elevation, but it is one of the flattest routes around town. Very open and exposed so subject to strong winds. For a tailwind home, look for forecasts from the South.
The loop takes you through open farmland and out past the airport, and includes views to Mt Canobolas and Spring Creek Dam.
Food & Water
No food or water on route. You could turn left at Forest Road and continue to Spring Hill where there is a general store & pub.
Watch Out For
Road Condition: As with most Orange roads, the condition varies. There is quite a lot of patching on this route. Huntley Road is generally quite patchy, Forest Road past Spring Terrace is one of the better condition roads around town.
Traffic: A route with moderate traffic at any time of the day, where the cars tend to travel at the 100kmh speed limit as the roads are quite straight and open.
Variations / Extensions
Lucknow Loop: Adds about 30mins / 15k’s and takes you through Lucknow where there is the fantastic cafe / homewares store Larder & Home, plus the Lucknow Skin Shop & Boot Barn for all your ugg boot & country style needs.
Forest Reefs via Spring Terrace: Turn left at Spring Terrace and head south to add XXmins / XXk’s. More open farmland, rolling terrain and a great pub at Forest Reefs which is a regular stop late in the Newcrest Challenge. The roads also get a bit quieter. The Forest Reefs magpie is notorious , so it’s worth getting to the front of the bunch in Spring.
