Ride Profile

Elevation Profile

The bunch ride staple… Both Saturday and Sunday group rides normally do some variation of Tallwood. It’s lightly rolling with a few short sharp punchy climbs along the way – perfect for a weekend hit out at pace or a casual roll. The Sunday ride is no-drop until the dipper when all bets are off.

The route takes you out to Forest Reefs, then turns East towards the Tallwood district before heading north again for a steady climb to Spring Terrace, before a flat section past the airport and back to town.

Variations on Sunday include heading to Millthorpe or Lucknow for coffee before returning to town.

Food & Water

No food or water, unless you detour to either Millthorpe or Lucknow.

Cellar Doors en Route (detour to Millthorpe)

Millthorpe: Angullong, Slow Wine Co and Tamburlaine all have cellar doors in Millthorpe.

Watch out for

Road Condition: Average, particularly on Forest Road from Spring Terrace until past the airport where it is rough and very patched.

Traffic: Normally not too bad and gets quieter the further from Orange you travel. These are 100kmh roads though without shoulder so as always be careful and change to single file as needed.

Variations / Extensions

Millthorpe. At around the 35km mark head straight rather than turning left on Forest Reefs Rd to go to Millthorpe. From Millthorpe you can either return the way you came and rejoin the Tallwood loop, or return to Orange via Millthorpe Rd and Spring Hill. The first option will be the quietest traffic-wise.

Lucknow. Keep going straight at 47km rather than turning left on to Aerodrome Rd, then turn left a few minutes down the road on to Beasley Rd. Return from Lucknow via Phoenix Mine Road and rejoin the loop by turning right on to Huntley Rd. Includes a short section of Highway riding in a 60kmh zone through Lucknow.
